Thus Teaches The Government
I've learned that the majority rules in this country, even when they are wrong. Or at least when I think they are wrong. Or when you think they are wrong.
The calling of the government should be to unite the people for the building of the country. That is usually not the case. The people in power seem to work for their own interests, or special interests. Not the people's interests. Sounds like some churches, who should be uniting people to build a Kingdom.
The purpose of the government is for the benefit of the people, but not to give hand-outs to the people. People need to pay their fair share, but only their share. I know people need to be involved, to give- not just receive. The people should run the government, and the government should not be running the people.
I've learned that like anything else, bigger isn't better. Bigger means redundancy, and excess, and slow to respond. Each of those cost each of us more money from the living we make.
One problem I see with our government is with our representatives. Some Congressmen and Senators make decisions based on what they want, and not what their constitutes really want or need. That's really not representation. Another problem seems to be when the courts try to legislate from the bench. They are called to interpret the laws, and not try to make or change the laws. They are the judicial branch, and not the legislative. A President isn't king, but a chief "executive".
I've learned that people are not happy with the results we're getting. The current Republican president has one of the lowest approval ratings in history- and so does the Democratic-led Congress. And I've know that people have little or no confidence is our government, and rarely trust the government to do the right thing http://www.pollingreport.com/institut.htm .
I've learned that the type of government we have in the United States, a democracy, is still the best type of government in the world. I'm not sure we do it the best, but we seem to be the model for the world. Look at other examples of government, and what happens to people of those lands. Hunger, poverty, chaos and even genocide.
Romans 13:1 says that the authorities that exist have been established by God. To paraphrase Proverbs 16:33, the votes are cast, but every decision is from the Lord. When the Lord spoke to Nebuchadnezzar in chapter 4 of Daniel, he said " the Lord is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to anyone he wishes." Jesus was about overthrowing the Roman empire. He was all about a spiritual kingdom.
I've learned from the government that no matter which party or person is in power, God is sovereign, and is still in control. No, wait, they seem to have forgotten that.

Love your notion of the government's call - and I sense in as much it is theirs it too is ours. Great inspiration here and thanks.
