We are pretty good at fellowship. We know how to get together as Christians and have fun. You know, potluck dinners, trips to ballgames or car races, women's or men's groups. That's really not what fellowship is, but still we're good at those things.
We're pretty good at listening to teachings. We have conferences for every type of teaching under God's sun. We can listen to 8,000 different pastors or teachers on TV, the radio or the internet. Some are very good, speaking the truth of God's word, wrath and love. Others try to justify their existence and lifestyle by telling you that God wants you wealthy and healthy. Just trust and send more money.
We need to get better at studying the Bible. How many hours do you spend in the Word, outside of church, each week? Do we just read make the end of a chapter or book, just to say we've read it? Or do we STUDY , to really know God better? Learning about our Father.
Where we fail, is the amount of time we spend in prayer. Talking to the Creator of the universe. How Christians can think He is who He is and not talk to Him, continually, intimately, is beyond me. Do you tell Him your desires, your dreams, your failures? Do you listen for His reply, that beautiful, still, small voice?
Strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees, Paul says in Hebrews 12:12.
Fellowship- but the right way, learning and loving your brother or sister.
Listen to teachings- frequently even. Test who and what you listen to with the Word.
Immerse yourself in the Sword. His Word is a Lamp unto my feet.....
But more than anything, talk. Talk. Talk to Him, share with Him your concerns and problems- then listen for Him.
That's what He wants. And what we need.
