Many in the younger generation now entering the "real world" are passing on the pattern of this world, of career, corporate ladder and retirement plans. These are instead choosing to serve the poor and downcast in remote areas around the world. They are feeding the poor and hungry, and helping the widows and orphans. They are planting seeds and doing the work for a far greater harvest.
Scott Bessenecker wrote a book titled The New Friars that talks about some of these on the front line. As the book says, "our love for God must translate into love for them."
I wrote briefly about Erin, a new friar I know, in my post ,What is Your Pattern?.
It's not only the young, but also the retired as well. More retirees than ever are deciding to spend their later years in a full-time service for Him. Golf courses and day-trips versus working with the poor and in prison.
I encourage you, whether young or old or in the middle, to be a new friar. There is so much work yet to be done, and so few workers in the field.
Remember- every day we build either things that are temporal, or things that are eternal.

Saturday Song- Heart to God Hand to Man- Geoff Moore
In darkest England 1865,
a dismal slum of poverty.
A band of believers rescued from the night,
played songs of hope and offered light.
If a man is hungry,
give him food to eat.
If a stranger's thirsty,
give him drink.
If a woman's battered, if a child's abandoned,
bring them in,
give them what they need.
A heart to God and a hand to man,
here begins the healing of our land.
A heart to God and a hand to man,
I can still hear the Hallelujah band.
A heart to God and a hand to man.
Like an army marching as to war,
come to set the captives free.
The bread of life for the poorest of poor,
hear their cries, bringing relief.
While women weep as they do now,
while children are hungry,
while hope can be found.
While one soul remains without light,
I will fight on, fight on,
I'll fight to the very end.
A heart to God and a hand to man,
here begins the healing of our land.
A heart to God and a hand to man,
I can still hear the Hallelujah band.

A Man on the Moon
There has been a lot of talk and discussion this week about the 40th anniversary of the Apollo landing. I can remember the night of July 20, 1969 very clearly, even though I was small. We didn't have a color TV then so we went next door to my grandparent's who did. I remember watching the events unfold and listening to the grown-ups talk about it. But mostly I remember walking out of their house and looking up at the moon, thinking that there were humans up there. I do remember thinking how close God seemed.
Genesis 2:1
Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
Vast array is a great choice of words there. It is, like Louie Giglio says, just God showing off.
This is most likely man's greatest achievement to date. If you look back through our history, what else compares? If we could cure cancer, maybe. Will the creation of artificial intelligence match, or are we just trying to play God there? I believe that one of the factors in the timing of the Lord's return will be because through cloning, artificial intelligence, and similar things, God will judge that we are being too big for our britches. Just like the Tower of Babel.
Genesis 11:4
Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth."
There is a museum in Neil Armstrong's honor in Wapakoneta, OH, his birthplace. Everyone who drives down the interstate that spans from Toledo to Cincinnati can see it right along the side of the interstate. It is shaped like a moon, and holds momentos from the trip, and even some moon rocks. I've driven by many times, but have never stopped. Now, it is in danger of closing due to budgetary cuts at the state level. For some this is a shrine, even a temple.
Isn't it interesting how we honor our achievements, but not the one who made us. We worship the creation, and not the creator. Yet the creation- our earth, the moon, the whole universe- groans in anticipation of the Creator's return.
Romans 8
18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. 22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.
So, while acknowledging what was accomplished 40 years ago, we should be praising and worshipping He who made it all possible.
Luke 19
37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:
38"Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!"[b]
"Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!"
39Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, "Teacher, rebuke your disciples!" 40"I tell you," he replied, "if they keep quiet, the rocks will cry out."
That probably means moon rocks too.

Like the Wind
The wind is an interesting force of nature. It can pack the power of an explosion, destroying things in its way. It can fill the snapping sails to propel a boat across the water, or make a kite dance in the sky. It can soothe on a hot summer day, lightly caressing the skin.
No one knows where it comes from. No one can see it. But you can see the effects of the wind, and you can feel the wind. It's like God in that way. You can't see Him but you can see His effect on things. And you can feel Him, His presence, calming you or pushing you along.
In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word "ruach" means spirit or wind, the breath of God. David used it in one of my favorite verses, Psalm 51:10-11, "Create in me a clean heart, O God..........take not your ruach from me". The New Testament Greek for Holy Spirit is "pneuma", wind, to lift up.
Be uplifted today by God's wind, by His Spirit. Revel in it, and let it guide you on the path God wants you.

Another Thought for Today
When we are in hand-to-hand conflict with the world, the flesh, and the devil himself, neat little Biblical confectionery is like shooting lions with a pea-shooter; God needs a man who will let go and deliver blows right and left as hard as he can hit, in the power of the Holy Ghost. Nothing but forked-lightning Christians will count.

Role Model
“I Am a Soldier of Christ!”
Roy Pontoh
15 years old
Indonesia
1999
The teens could tell that the shouts and chanting were getting closer and closer. An older
teen looked nervously at his friend. “The Muslims are coming. We’d better hide the kids,”
he said. Others, following his lead, helped the smaller children find hiding places in the
buildings nearby. Then they hid themselves.
It was January and a crowd of mostly Christian children and teenagers had gathered for a
Bible camp at the Station Field Complex of Pattimura University on the island of Ambon,
Indonesia. When the camp was over, cars came to take the laughing, rejoicing children
back to their homes. But there were not enough cars to hold the young people.
Mecky Sainyakit and three other Christian men had gone to Wakal village to try to rent
additional transportation to take the rest home. But they had not yet come back.
What the kids waiting for rides home didn’t know was that on their way to the village, the
men were attacked by a Muslim mob, who pulled them from their car and out onto the
road. Mecky and one of the other men were stabbed to death, and later their bodies were
burned by the mob. The two other men escaped with their lives.
Before long, the mob reached the University. They found many of the teens and forced
them to come out of hiding.
Roy Pontoh was forced from his hiding place and made to stand before the mob.
“Renounce your Jesus, or we will kill you!” they threatened.
Roy was terribly frightened. Though trembling, he answered, “I am a soldier of Christ!”
At this, one of the Muslim attackers swung a sword at his stomach. The sword hit the
Bible Roy held, and ripped into it, knocking it out of his hand. The man’s next swing sliced
open Roy’s stomach. His last word was “Jesus.”
The mob dragged Roy’s body out and threw it in a ditch. Four days later, his family found
it. Even though they are wracked with grief, Roy’s parents stand proud of their son, who
stood strong in his faith to the end.
Whoever declares openly—speaking out freely—and confesses that he is My
worshipper and acknowledges Me before men, the Son of man also will declare and
confess and acknowledge him before the angels of God.

Saturday Song- You're Beautiful- Phil Wickham
I see Your face in every sunrise
The colors of the morning are inside Your eyes
The world awakens in the light of the day
I look up to the sky and say
You’re beautiful
I see Your power in the moonlit night
Where planets are in motion and galaxies are bright
We are amazed in the light of the stars
It’s all proclaiming who You are
You’re beautiful, You're beautiful
I see you there hanging on a tree
You bled and then you died and then you rose again for me
Now you are sitting on Your heavenly throne
Soon we will be coming home
You’re beautiful, you're beautiful
When we arrive at eternity’s shore
Where death is just a memory and tears are no more
We’ll enter in as the wedding bells ring
Your bride will come together and we’ll sing
You’re beautiful, You're beautiful, You're beautiful
I see Your face, You're beautiful, You're beautiful, You're beautiful
I see Your face, You're beautiful, You're beautiful, You're beautiful

Rest
A nice summer evening, sitting in a lawn chair at dusk. The sound of the fountain in the pond. The light breeze and birds singing. All after a hard day's work. Peace. Quiet. Rest.
What gives us peace? A evening like above? A long run or bike ride? Holding that little baby? Those are great ways to work out the noise and stress of our day. The Word says that each day has enough evil for itself. It always feels good to relax.
We need rest and peace. God gave us a great example after He created this and other worlds. He rested.

Saturday Song- Fearless- Building 429
Fearless- Building 429
I don’t understand
No I can’t comprehend
This power that draws me to you
But I know for the cross
I’ll consider all lost
In an effort to tell of the truth
That the world may know
That the world may know
That you have been heaven sent to us
That the world may see
That the captives are free
For you have been heaven sent to us
I’ll be fearless for You
I’ll be fearless for You
Take me I’m Yours
I’ll be fearless for You
All the times that I’ve failed
When my doubt has prevailed
These are the moments I’m giving to you
Cause I can’t be ashamed
No I can’t fear the pain
When it comes time to be living proof
So the world may see
That the captives are freed
‘Cause you have been heaven sent to us
Unwilling to bend
Unwilling to break
Headstrong I’ll stand
No matter what it takes
I don’t understand
No I can’t comprehend
This power that draws me to you
But I know for the cross
I’ll consider all lost
In an effort to tell of the truth

Fearless
Are we timid when it comes to sharing our faith, or are we bold ? Do we walk away from opportunities to share the love and grace and mercy of God, afraid what someone might say? The Word says we need to be fearless.
Paul was a great example of a fearless witness. He said in Ephesians 6:19, "Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel,". Later, he teaches several different sermons when he says in Phillipians 1:14,"Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly."
Psalm 112:8 (New Living Translation)says "They are confident and fearless
and can face their foes triumphantly." Do we face our foes triumphantly? Is it because we are fearless for the Lord?
Be Fearless for Him each day of your life.

Stones
Several years ago I had the chance to swim in Lake Michigan at the northern tip of Michigan. Even though it was July, the water was extremely cold, and the normal person could only tolerate it a short time. The brief time I was in the water, I found three of the smoothest, whitest stones I had ever seen. There are about twice the size of a large egg. I brought those stones home with me and still have them.
My thoughts then were of David and his stones. David's stones had to be smooth, so they could travel straight and true. His life depended on it.
I also think about the Word saying that if we don't praise God, the stones will cry out His praise.
Lately when I think of those stones, I think of Revelation. Jesus says in Revelation 2:17 that he who overcomes will get a white stone. This stone will have a new name for us on it. It will be a name that He has chosen for us, and one that only we will know.
I can't wait to get that stone, and see what my new name is.

Listen Carefully- God at Eventide
July 6 - Listen Carefully, from the devotional God at Eventide
My poor deaf world. What it misses in loving Words and Whispers.
I want to share so much with it. It will not listen.
"Wherefor do you spend money for that which is not bread and your labour for that which satisfieth not. Harken diligently unto Me and eat that which is good and let your Soul delight itself . . ."
"He that willeth to do My Will -- shall know."
Whose Voice would you hear? So many voices are about you that you may miss the Still Small Voice.
"This is My Beloved -- Hear Him."

Saturday Song- What Did He Die For- Twila Paris
I missed sharing this on Memorial Day. Today, for Independence Day, we still remember we are free because of sacrifice.
What Did He Die For- Twila Paris
He Was 21 in 1944,
He Was Hope, and He Was Courage On a Lonely Shore.
Sent There By a Mother, With Love Beyond Her Tears,
Just a Young American Who Chose to Rise Above His Fears,
And As I Watch Him Struggle Up That Hill,
Without a Thought of Turning Back.
I Cannot Help But Wonder,
What Did He Die For, When He Died For You and Me,
Made the Sacrifice So That We Could All Be Free.
I Believe That We Will the Answer Each to Heaven,
For the Way We Spend a Priceless Liberty.
Look Inside and Ask the Question,
What Did He Die For, When He Died For Me.
To the Darkest Day in A.d 33,
Came the Mercy and Compassion of Eternity,
Sent There By a Father With Love Beyond His Tears,
Blameless One the Only Son to Bear the Guilt of All These Years,
And As I Watch Him Struggle Up That Hill,
Without a Thought of Turning Back,
I Can Not Help But Wonder,
What Did He Die For, When He Died For You and Me,
Made the Sacrifice So That We Could All Be Free.
I Believe That We Will the Answer Each to Heaven,
For the Way We Spend a Priceless Liberty.
Look Inside and Ask the Question,
What Did He Die For, When He Died For Me.
He Died For Freedom,
He Died For Love,
Of All the Things We do to Pay Him Back
Could Never Be Enough.
I Can Not Help But Wonder,
