At the start of the new year, it seems as if everyone is looking for a new start. A makeover. A blank slate.
Living in the middle of the US, we had a white Christmas. I'm not a big fan of snow, more of a beach person. But it is beautiful the way the snow falls, whether light or heavily. The hush and quiet in the woods or walkways. The covering of all the dirt or unkept things in the yard. The glistening ice crystals shining in the sun the next day.
For generations we have used it as an allegory to God covering our sins, washing them out of memory. The Word is full of references-
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Psalm 51:7
“ Come now, and let us reason together,”
Says the LORD,
“ Though your sins are like scarlet,
They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be as wool.
Isaiah 1:18
Jesus paid it all on the cross. Only His covering won't melt or wash away. I'm glad my sins are gone.
Jesus Paid It All
I hear the Savior say,
"Thy strength indeed is small.
Child of weakness, watch and pray,
Find in Me thine all in all."
’Cause Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe.
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.
Lord, now indeed I find
Thy pow'r and Thine alone,
Can change the leper’s spots,
And melt the heart of stone.
And when before the throne
I stand in Him complete,
Jesus died my soul to save
my lips shall still repeat.
Oh, praise the One who paid my debt,
And raised this life up from the dead.
